A unique view of the island of Capri, among history and legends
Punta Campanella, the promontory overlooking the island of Capri, dominates the tip of the Sorrento peninsula. A place where the land and sea meet, it has starred in many legends since antiquity. On the summit stand the remains of an ancient Saracen tower, on the site where Ulysses is said to have built a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Minerva after encountering the sirens Leucosia, Partenope and Ligeia.
To reach one of Punta Campanella’s most scenic spots, you have to take the level path surrounded by dense vegetation that starts from the nearby hamlet of Termini. After a walk of just under two kilometres, you arrive at a fork in the road: one route takes you to the remains of the tower, while the other climbs up the ridge of Monte San Costanzo.
After a strenuous walk, you can relax on one of the many beaches lining the side slopes of Punta Campanella: 40 kilometres of coastline also perfect for diving.
